The last five years the village of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw organized a foal contest. The city council wanted to further expand the focus on the Draft Horse with a European foal competition for draft horse foals. So, in addition to the KMBT (Belgium), they invited foals of the KVTH (Netherlands), Trait du Nord (France) and Rheinisch & Westfälisches Deutsches Kaltblut (Germany) to participate.
To remain in the atmosphere, also the jury was international: for Belgium Annelies De Brabander, for the Netherlands Gerard Kruders and for France Carole Topart.
For each participating country there was selected a champion foal (prize money €250). Out of these four champions a European champion was chosen, good for € 1,000 extra!
On 25 September, next to the official contest, the first European Foal Championship was organised. The champion title went to the Netherlands with Laura van de Fossa Eugenia (s. Flor van 't Cleihof), owned by Jeroen Gaal out Venlo.
